International Firefighter’s Day
IFFD was instituted back in 1999 due to the death of 5 firefighters in tragic circumstances in a wildfire at Linton in Victoria, Australia. It is celebrated May 4th every year.
On the 1st Saturday in May (America’s version, in Australia it is done on Sunday) at NOON, local time, every station and fire truck across the country is asked to blow their horns and sirens for 30 seconds to remember all fallen Firefighters and the sacrifices they make every day.
Earlier this year our founders Bill Hamilton and Jeff Rountree learned of the INCREASED risk for cancer (6-8x higher) in fire service. As Rotarians, we wanted to help and say “thank you”. We decided to recognize our heroes by introducing this one-of-a kind event to the states.
The 1st Annual “Sound-Off” occurred on May 6th this year in beautiful Clay County and was a smashing success. We raised over $13k to help with this crisis. Since the event, we established Hoods for Heroes to help raise awareness while also providing these heroes the lifesaving, chemical blocking hoods they need to help reduce their risks. The 2019 “Sound-Off” will be bigger and better!
The 2nd Annual Firefighter “Sound-Off” will be May 4th, 2019 at the Moosehaven Grounds in beautiful Clay County Florida.
You can help make a difference one AMERICAN at a time. You never
know when you will need these heroes to save you or a loved one.
Let’s do our part to help protect them!
Hoods For Heroes

for cancer one hood at a time!
