HOODS FOR HEROES TEAMS UP WITH AT&T IN OCALA TO SPONSOR A LOCAL FIREFIGHTER APPRECIATION EVENT
Ocala, Florida – Hoods For Heroes (H4H) and AT&T are teaming up. In support of first responders, AT&T is hosting a Hoods for Heroes event at its 4405 S.W. College Road Ocala store on May 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Hoods for Heroes raises money for protective hoods for firefighters that can help reduce exposure to cancer-causing chemicals. AT&T has teamed up with the nonprofit to help create awareness in the local community and raise funds. Hoods for Heroes will deliver life saving equipment to the men and women of Ocala Fire Rescue fire service. Hoods For Heroes receives donations from individuals and organizations like Scott Cameron State Farm, Rountree Realty, and Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala to purchase the hoods, which are then distributed at no charge to firefighters.
Hoods For Heroes is a national non-profit with a passion for protecting first responders. The organization is committed to reducing the risk of cancer to Firefighters. Most fire stations currently have outdated gear that does not block harmful carcinogens that are encountered when fighting a fire. 1 out of 3 Firefighters will be diagnosed with cancer and 70 percent of America’s Firefighters are volunteers. Hoods for Heroes raises money and provides grants to fire departments for chemical blocking hoods to protect the thin skin in the face and neck area that is most likely to be affected by cancer causing chemicals. These hoods block up to 99% of the dangerous chemicals that Firefighters are exposed to daily.
Headquartered in Northeast Florida, the organization was founded with the mission of providing life-saving equipment to the men and women of the fire service. The all-volunteer organization raises funds to purchase the equipment and distribute it at no charge to first responders. Hoods For Heroes partners with more than 30 fire service-related companies, and provides support, awareness and equipment to reduce the rate of cancer throughout the fire service.
This aligns with AT&T’s long-standing commitment to public safety. AT&T has been enabling and innovating public safety communications for nearly 140 years and is deepening that commitment with FirstNet. FirstNet is the nationwide communications platform dedicated to America’s first responders and public safety community. It’s being built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority. First responders interested in FirstNet can learn more or subscribe at the local AT&T store.

There will be firetrucks, local firefighters, food available from Mojo Grill & Catering, raffle for a 55 inch LED TV provided by Jenkins Hyundai of Ocala, and more. We hope to see you there.
